Villa Fantese (Contrada Fantese 4) is a 200 year old 5 bedroom trulli villa with stunning views, private pool and WiFi, 25 minutes from the sea
Old trulli stone villa, one of only three houses in the contrada, deep in the Puglian countryside. Set in the beautiful Valley d'Itria it has five double bedrooms, handmade super king size mattresses, 3 modern bathrooms (2 with bidet), kitchen set in local stone, stone flooring and towering conical ceilings crossed by old wooden beams. Bed 5 is reached from outside the property as trulli have outside steps to the roof. This room should not be used by children as they would have to come down the steps at night to reach their parents. All bedrooms have either side tables or stone alcoves with reading lamps. Each bedroom has a stone floor and bespoke windows with integral mosquito nets and shutter. All the doors are handmade wooden with traditional locks. There are wool blankets, eiderdowns for winter. There are mosquito 'zappers' provided in each bedroom. Bedrooms 1 and 4 have en suite bathrooms. There are two hairdryers. Each room has a fan.
Things To Do
The famous Italian cycling path is 2 minutes from the house and is the official 'The Way of the Trulli' section.
Visit our local Buddhist centre, world famous Bhole Baba where you can practise yoga or join in the meditation.
Sit under the ancient olive trees or pick your own figs whilst watching the sun set over the valley with a glass of local Primitivo wine, which can be bought from the local Upal cooperativa at ridiculously low prices.
Evening meals can be catered for an extra charge directly to the local cook. They can also provide local food cookery classes.
You will find vegetables growing in the garden, please use them. Also all the fruit or nuts in our fields that are ripe are free for your use, please help yourselves. We also leave dried foods in the pantry, if they are there you are free to use them.
We have lots of cook books, dictionaries and maps for your use as well. We leave plenty of DVDs, CDs, stationery, extra lightbulbs, loo paper, and often soap powder. Please use all the games (Articulate, Chess, Draughts, cards, Risk etc) and well over 60 books some in foreign languages.
We have various balls to play with in addition to the full size ping pong table.
There is plenty to see around the area and the beaches are lovely, but for peace and quiet, just sit by the pool watch the butterflies and house martins whilst looking at the view or take a stroll around Cisternino late at night after a wonderful dinner at Il Taverna del Torre, picking up a handmade ice cream on the way in Glaciale Era. Check out some of the trendy bars in Cisternino or just visit a traditional cafe for an espresso and cornetto (cream filled croissant).
Please note bedroom 5 on the roof has not got a bathroom next to it.
The pool man comes twice a week to check the water purity and to clean the pool thoroughly.
The pool does not have a fence around it but the whole garden (two fields) is fenced and gated.
The flowers are beautiful around the pool and we have pomegranate trees and oleander bushes along the fence on one side, creating a lovely colour wall.
We have two outdoor showers so that you can wash before and after a swim and there is plenty of space to dry clothes.
You will find wood and kindling for the pizza forno and details of how to make the dough and cook the pizzas in the forno.
